intermission
before i finished posting about my trip to the philippines, i thought i'd just throw in a random post-about-nothing. hsinchu had been really nice all week, but literally the minute i got off of work on friday it started to rain. today im sort of stranded in my apartment staring out the window, hearing the incensant midi-inspired song of the garbage truck. it's grey and yucky and kind of cold. sigh.
but on the other hand, it WAS all nice and sunny, so hopefully tomorrow won't suck. summer is coming, and from what i hear it's wet, but not this wet (two weeks ago it rained for an entire week nonstop, really!). hopefully i can start traveling around taiwan soon, which will probably give me a better impression of the place. as most everyone knows, im not too impressed with it at the moment.
starting chinese classes on the 21st. we'll see how that goes. i'd rather learn spanish or arabic or wolof or italian or ..., but im not in any of those places, so chinese it is. the goal is to learn travel words and food words so i can make my life a little easier. needless to say, i dont plan on doing it for the next ten months. whatever i learn in the next two months (length of the class) will have to suffice.
also in the news: trying to find a gym in hsinchu, but without much luck. i went to one place, but the owner said, "No girls. All muscle." hmmm. i think that the idea of women going to a gym isn't widely understood in taiwan. i know there are lots of places in taipei, but hsinchu is not that big, and most of the foreigners live in the science park, which is not in my neighborhood. so yeah, if there are any taiwanese gym goers reading this blog, Where are the gyms in Hsinchu?
well, i'd of sitting inside and staring out. going to tackle the rain.
