top five best books i've read in taiwan

1. Middlesex: todd would like this one, as would anybody interesting in gender identity, intrafamilial relationships, and good writing. though a long book full of intelligent thoughts and non-baby words, it reads quickly.

2. Tortilla Flat: so what if i've read this book twice before. i love it. everyone should read it.

3. Naked: even if his books aren't too diverse, david sedaris is so funny! seldom do i laugh out loud without alcohol, or having first been driven to a condition of insanity by a hoard of 10-year-olds, but i think my neighbors heard me read this book.

4. Love in the Time of Cholera: i didn't think it was spectacular when i first finished it, but i guess it was just having trouble contending with the Philippines at the time because i really havent stopped thinking about it since. it's always on the back of my mind. odd. in any case, garcia marquez is very entertaining with all the random weirdness in his stories, so even if you're not sure about the book as a whole, i find you can always pick it up and put it down ten minutes later without feeling what you've read was bad.

5. The Unbearable Lightness of Being: as much a philosophy book as a novel sometimes, it also has been in the back of my mind since i finished it. made me think of a certain fine sir from many years ago who i think would greatly enjoy it.
